Chapter Nine - The Feasts of the Lord

CHAPTER NINE

The Feasts of the Lord

Fulfilled in Jesus Christ

✦ ✦ ✦

“Which are a shadow of things to come; but the body is of Christ.”

— Colossians 2:17

Revealed in Pattern

From the beginning, God has revealed Himself through appointed times — the feasts of the Lord (Leviticus 23) — patterns that reflect His nature and His purposes across generations. These were never mere observances. In each one, God revealed who He is: the Deliverer, the Holy One, the Provider, the Revealer, the One who calls and awakens, the Merciful Judge, the God who dwells with His people.

Fulfilled in Christ

What was revealed in pattern has been fulfilled in fullness through Jesus Christ. Each feast, once a shadow, now points to substance:

Passover    Christ, our Passover Lamb, through whom deliverance is given (1 Corinthians 5:7)

Unleavened Bread    the sinless One, the qualified sacrifice, calling His people into holiness

First Fruits    Christ risen, securing life beyond death (1 Corinthians 15:20)

Pentecost    the sending of His Spirit, empowering His people (Acts 2)

Trumpets    the coming King, calling His people to readiness (1 Thessalonians 4:16)

Atonement    the once-for-all sacrifice, securing forgiveness (Hebrews 9:12)

Tabernacles    the One who dwells with His people, now and forever (John 1:14)

Through Him, what God revealed in shadow is made complete.

The Identity of the People

In Him, people are not left unchanged. They become the redeemed, the sanctified, the hopeful, the empowered, the watchful, the forgiven — the dwelling people of God. What the feasts once pictured for a nation gathered at an appointed time, Christ now accomplishes in every nation, in every age, for all who receive Him.

✦ ✦ ✦

The calendar of Heaven was never arbitrary. Every appointed time was a rehearsal for what Christ would finally accomplish — and in Him, the rehearsal has become the reality.

Every feast was a promise. Christ is the fulfillment of every one.

“For Christ our Passover is sacrificed for us.” — 1 Corinthians 5:7
